FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – Chief Eric Lahey was sworn in as Fort Wayne's new Fire Chief.

Lahey is no stranger to the Fort Wayne Fire Department as he joined in 1996.

Over the past 18 years, the former solider in the U.S. Army has held positions of Deputy Fire Chief, District Chief of Special Operations, District Chief of Training and Development, and Captain of Training.

Lahey has become Chief at a time where City union workers are battling with City Council for their collective bargaining rights.

Although public safety is not at risk of losing their negotiating options, Lahey says he still has a stance on the matter.
