FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- The Fire Department and Three River Ambulance Authority (TRAA) team were the big winners of the 19th annual Battle of the Badges beating out the Police and Sheriff's team with the final tally of 400 votes to 327 votes.
This year the competition racked up more than 600 pints of blood and more than 600 platelet products.
Battle of the Badges kicked off Monday as leaders from local law enforcement agencies, fire departments and Three Rivers Ambulance were at the Fort Wayne Donor Center to donate blood.
The Battle of the Badges is a good-natured rivalry among first responder groups that helps ensure the blood supply keeps pace with demand during the holidays.
The groups participating this year include the Fort Wayne Fire Department, Allen County Fire Department, Three Rivers Ambulance Authority, Fort Wayne Police Department, Indiana State Police and Allen County Sheriff’s Department.
The goal is to collect 1,000 units of life-saving blood.
