FORT WAYNE, Ind. (NBC33) - A sporting staple of the Summit City has closed its door.

Baer Field Speedway officials announced all events scheduled for this weekend were cancelled.

Officials later told NBC33 that the remainder of the races for the summer will not be run, and there are no plans to reopen the track.

Officials cite financial reasons.

Baer Field opened as a go-kart track in 1963, and celebrated its 50th anniversary last year.
