FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - Back-to-school shopping is already underway. The first day of school for many students in the area is only four weeks from now. But what is the price tag for a back-to-school shopping trip?
According to the National Retail Federation parents spend an average of $689 on back to school supplies for their children in kindergarten through 12th grade.
For freshmen college kids the back-to-school shopping price tag rises to an average of $929.
While many of the basics are popular, like notepads, pens and backpacks, the electronics are what many parents and students are hunting for on their back to school shopping trips.
"Technology is always changing and so we work very hard to stay up with it. Obviously the iPad the Kindle, those types of things, you know, we have seen a higher demand for and hopefully, we really plan to be ready for that this year," said Scott Hoffman, store director, Meijer.
Hoffman says while many are already starting their back-to-school shopping the stores will start to get much busier starting August 1.
