BBB Alert: Publishers Clearing House Scam

July 25, 2013 Updated Jul 25, 2013 at 10:21 AM EST

General Credit Union called the Better Business Bureau after a member had contacted them to pay taxes on her winnings that she believed she had received from Publishers Clearing House.

The member had received a call allegedly from Publishers Clearing House telling her she won money and a car. The person on the phone asked the woman to purchase a prepaid visa card and give them the numbers off the card.

The woman was asked to give them $4,000 but how much money she lost is not known.

The BBB wants you to be aware of this scam and contact them or police if you are contacted by someone claiming to be from Publishers Clearing House asking you to give them money in a suspicious manner.
