COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (21Alive) -- Amanda Banks has officially announced that she will run in a Republican caucus to replace her husband while he serves overseas.
Last month, Jim Banks announced that he was being called up by the Navy Reserves to serve in Afghanistan in September and will have to take a leave from his duties as the 17th District's State Senator. His wife Amanda is the former spokesperson for the Allen County chapter of the American Red Cross says it would be an honor to serve in her husband's place while he is serving our country.
"The issue that is most important to me from the get go is the pro life cause, i serve as the vice president of the allen county right to life currently, and i have done that a number of years, said Banks. " So social issues i am very familiar with from a past job with focus on the family, but there are other issues in the district that i'm familiar with while traveling around with Jim."
A 2004 state law allows lawmakers to take leave if they are serving in the military. That action requires a proxy to serve in the departing lawmaker's absence.
