PANAMA CITY, Fla. (www.incnow.tv) - The families of Alexis Fairchild and Sidney Good say the teenage girls are showing improvements following a horrific parasailing crash Monday.
"Alexis was able to walk today with a walker and the assistance of a physical therapist," the Good and Fairchild families said in a statement released by Bay Medical Center in Panama City, Fla. "She walked into Sidney's room to visit."
The Goods and Fairchilds also held a press conference Thursday afternoon to share how they heard about the accident and how their families are coping with this tragedy.
"We've just been overwhelmed today," Mike Fairchild, Alexis' father says. "We've got some great news for all the stuff that she's been through."
Eric Good, Sidney's father, says both girls had severe head trauma and underwent brain cermony. Sidney had additional swelling and a blood clot that was later successfully alleviated.
Sidney remains in critical condition, but is responding through movements, the families said.
"Sidney was able to raise her hand, and it was a great moment," Mike Fairchild, Alexis' father, says.
The families have set up a Good and Fairchild Benefit Fund through PNC Bank. Those interested in donating can do so at branches in Panama City Beach, Fla.; Lynn Haven, Fla.; and throughout Indiana.
The family thanks everyone for their support and kindness.
"We are amazed at what the power of prayer is doing to help our families through this."
The U.S. Coast Guard announced Wednesday it will investigate the parasail accident. The Coast Guard's Mobile, Ala., division and Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission will share information to identify the cause of the accident and institute policies to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
