FORT WAYNE, IN (Indiana's NewsCenter) --- What would you like Mark Souder's replacement in Congress to focus on soon after he or she heads to Washington D.C.?
It's a question we put to the crowded field of candidates trying to secure the Republican Party nomination this coming week-end.
When Mark Souder resigned his seat May 18th, it prompted 15 GOP candidates to try and succeed the veteran congressman.
Roughly 520 precinct committeemen and women will choose one at a nominating caucus on Saturday.
But we wanted you to hear, if elected, what each would make "job one" if sent to Capitol Hill.
In installment number one, we bring you the priorities of car dealer Bob Thomas, self-described “blue collar” mom Rachel Grubb from Auburn, and former Fort Wayne City Council candidate Bob Morris, who says it's about reining in spending.
Bob Morris/(R) 3rd District Congressional Candidate: " When I'm elected to Congress, that's the first thing that I'm going to do, to ensure that our country's budget is balanced, so we can continue to enjoy the things that we love. My children's children will be able to enjoy the things that they love."
Rachel Grubb/(R) 3rd District Congressional Candidate: " I want to try to cleanup the mess with the health care bill, work as hard as I could possibly work to get that repealed. It's just going to ruin our country, there's no two ways about it."
Bob Thomas/(R) 3rd District Congressional Candidate: " We've got to get this economy going back, and the best way to do that is to reform our tax structure. We've got to get the taxes down. Every time we lower taxes in the United States, the economy goes up, and what they're talking about in Washington D.C. is exactly the opposite of what's going to help this economy."
A new republican candidate may be entering the fray.Scott Welsh from Goshen has a web site up, saying he's running as a republican, pledging to serve one two-year term only.
