FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - One of the bands in the Waynedale Memorial Day Parade was the Elmhurst High School Band, performing for the last time.

Band members proudly displayed their banner as the group warmed up for the final time together.

Drum Major Katie Pifferitti says performing for the last time was a rush.

And she says she's proud to have been a Trojan.

“It's sad, because I can't do this again with them," Piffertti said. "So it's sad. But, I'll be ok. I know the next band is going to be great too. It will be awesome to get to know other people. But, I'm going to miss these people I have here.”

Alumni say it was bitter sweet to watch the end of an era.

"It's like not going home," Elmhurst Alumni Rick Poffenberger said. "Like, not being able to go home. I went there. I grew up here. It's just a piece of history."

Piffertti says she plans to try out for band at her new school next year.

"I'm going to North Side and I'm actually trying out for Drum Major there," Piffertti said. "So hopefully I'll get it and I'll meet new friends. Either way it's awesome just to have the chance to actually try it. And get to know new people. And I'll actually have some of my friends there too."
