FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Hundreds of students, parents and alumni attended Elmhurst's final choir concert ever.
The concert was highlighted by nearly 40 alums singing odes to the Beatles and combining with current Elmhurst students for a mass choir.
Elmhurst High School opened in 1929.
The school will close on Wednesday, June 9.
Alums say it's bittersweet to be performing under the circumstances.
"I'm gonna be fighting back the tears I'm afraid," said Class of 1980 Elmhurst Graduate Allen Schnellenberger.
"When I heard about this happening... the last concert... I'm like I have to be apart of this," Class of 1984 Elmhurst Graduate Lynn Crockett.
Crockett joined the Elmhurst choir during his freshman year and sang until he graduated.
To sing in Thursday night's concert, Crockett drove nearly four hours from Dayton, Ohio.
Another member of the alumni choir graduated 52 years ago from Elmhurst High School.
He's still an active singer, putting what he learned at Elmhurst to good use in the Summit City Barbershop Chorus.
"The choir director at the time said that there is this thing called barbershop harmony... who's interested in it and it really started from right here at Elmhurst," said Class of 1958 Graduate Dwight Nash.
One of the younger members is '07 grad Anika Foster.
She says she came back because of her mentor, Elmhurst Choir Director Brett Adams.
"Mr. Adams meant a whole lot to me. I did show choir and everything and it was really great and I'm just really sad that the school is closing because Elmhurst was a big part of my life," said Class of 2007 Graduate Anika Foster.
Remember Lynn Crockett who said, " I have to be apart of this".
Crockett is not sticking around for the Memorial Day Weekend, he's driving from Fort Wayne tonight back to Dayton, Ohio.
"I have to be at Lexus-Nexus in Dayton, Ohio at about 8:30 tomorrow morning... (Laughter)," said, Crockett.
(Crockett's round trip drive was nearly eight hours, to sing for less than thirty minutes.)
Elmhurst seniors will graduate on Friday, June 11.
The community is invited to walk the halls one final time on Sunday, June 13.
The open house will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
