FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The 78th and final band concert was held Thursday night at Elmhurst High School.

The mood was bittersweet as dozens of Elmhurst alumni shared the stage with Elmhurst students for one last hurrah.

"Band was the whole reason I stayed in high school,: said Class of 1974 graduate Debbie Kennedy.

"It's what really got me through... when I saw this was the last concert and alumni was invited there was no way they were going to keep me away," said Kennedy,

"My daughter who is a fifth grader playing the clarinet as well thought that this was a really cool thing for me to do so here I am tonight," said Class of 1982 graduate Chris Baker-Stevens.

"I wish Fort Wayne Community Schools had made a better decision you know to keep it open. This school has been around for along time. There's a lot of history built up here and just to see it go is just mind boggling to me," said Class of 2007 graduate Aaron Manfredonia.

The Elmhurst Choir is invited alumni to take the stage on Thursday, May 27, for the final spring choir concert in Elmhurst's storied history.
