Great News For Defiance's GM Plant

DEFIANCE, Ohio (Indiana's NewsCenter) - General Motors is investing nearly a billion dollars in five of its plants across the country.

One of them is in Defiance, Ohio, which is getting $115 million.

Indiana's NewsCenter was there for Tuesday morning's big announcement.

The company says construction is underway which will allow the plant to produce the next generation engine that will be more fuel-efficient.

In addition the plant will be adding 189 jobs to it’s over 1300 work force.

Plant Manager Tom Gallagher says, “We're a part of the next generation technology, we're transferring our business from cast iron to aluminum and the range of processes really solidifies our future for the Defiance site.”

GM's announcement came on the heels of $16 million in economic incentives from the state of Ohio.
