ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - After nearly 18 months of work, a new version of a proposed patient safety ordinance was introduced Friday morning at an Allen County Commissioners meeting.
The new proposal would require any physician living outside Allen County and without hospital admitting privileges to file with the Allen County Health Department and provide emergency contact information.
The ordinance is the result of many months of study by the local medical community.
Allen County Commissioner of Health Deborah McMahan said, “They talked to other people, got input, looked at the law to try to see if there are any gaps in patient safety in Allen County and identify areas that can be improved, that's what this ordinance addresses.”
The commissioners are expected to vote on the ordinance as early as next week.
If approved, the changes could take effect by July.
