Commissioners Consider Patient Safety Ordinance

June 18, 2010 Updated Mar 22, 2010 at 5:36 PM EDT

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The Allen County Commissioners will consider an ordinance on Friday that is designed to increase patient safety.

Under the proposal, all physicians who offer to perform any type of outpatient surgical tissue removal procedure would have to have admitting privileges at a local hospital if the procedure is preformed within Allen County.

When the proposal was first introduced in 2008, several pro-choice advocates claimed the provision was targeted at limiting the availability of abortions in the county, because no local doctors perform the procedure in the city.
