ADAMS COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - A stunning turn of events for a man convicted of neglecting 37 of his horses, no jail time or fines.

A judge sentenced Rick Hill to about 2.5 years of "probation" Tuesday for 12-misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty and a felony count of improper disposal of an animal.

Hill was found guilty of those charges last month.

He was also fined several thousand dollars, but the judge suspended the fines.

Volunteers fostered Hill's starving horses and nursed them back to health.
