FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter)- Fort Wayne economic leaders are concerned more than 1,000 jobs could be leaving.

Fort Wayne officials say Navistar is looking to move operations to a consolidated facility in suburban Chicago.

Navistar is the parent company of International Truck and Engine Corporation, makers of commercial trucks and engines.

Andi Udris, the President of the Fort Wayne-Allen County Economic Development Alliance says he's confident Navistar incorporated is making plans to move operations to Lisle, Illinois.

Udris says the company announced a few months ago it was interested in properties in Chicago, and Navistar officials told him they want to consolidate.

“There's nothing specific that the company has stated to say yes these jobs are going,” said Udris. “But at the same hand we don't hear anything from the company saying no, these jobs are going to stay no matter what happens.”

He says the 1.5 million square feet of empty office space in Illinois is large enough to accommodate employees from both states.

Udris says his organization is working on a confidential plan to keep Navistar’s truck design and technology center in Fort Wayne.

A company spokesperson says they are no plans to move the Fort Wayne facility to Illinois, yet.

He says due to economic developments, the company is looking at this possibility. He refused to comment further.
