FORT WAYNE, IN (Indiana's NewsCenter) --- The Sheriff of Wabash County says police were put in the middle of a domestic dispute between Scott and Lisa Pattison this past winter, about six months before Scott Pattison says he returned home to find his wife with a barbell on her throat.

The death investigation is a mystery that a grand jury will be asked to help sort out.

Jeff Neumeyer spent Monday in Wabash and has more on the story.

Neumeyer: " In about three weeks, grand jury members will convene at the downtown court complex in Wabash to see and hear evidence related to the death of Lisa Pattison.

She was a well-known businessperson in nearby Marion, the marketing sales manager at the Five Points Mall.

But it's her husband Scott Pattison who figures to be getting all the attention in the grand jury proceedings.

Scott Pattison told police he returned to the couple's home in rural LaFontaine July 2nd to find his wife in their workout room, on a weight bench, with a weight on her throat.

Pattison claims he carried her out to his pickup and started toward Marion General Hospital before an officer and ambulance intercepted him to transport Lisa Pattison the rest of the way.

She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Grant County Coroner still hasn't ruled on cause or manner of death, but the grand jury angle suggests the Wabash County prosecutor has an idea it was no accident.

Scott Pattison had filed for divorce in March, but the couple was still living together.

The grand jury could clear Pattison of wrongdoing or return an indictment for murder or voluntary manslaughter."

Leroy Striker/(R) Wabash County Sheriff: " There is a need to be absolutely thorough in this, and again, so, getting those pieces together, we don't want to rush into anything, but again, we want to make sure that justice is done in this case."

Neumeyer: " Sheriff Striker says the January domestic disturbance was a non-violent verbal dispute.

Scott Pattison has been subpoenaed to testify before the grand jury September 23rd, in hopes of revealing whether his wife's death has a sinister side.”
