FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - It’s a registry no one wants to be on, but now sex offenders must pay to be on it.
Allen County can now charge sex offenders $50 to register their name and address to the Indiana Sex and Violent Offenders Registry. Every time an offender changes their address, they’ll be charged an additional $5.
Through this ordinance Allen County will earn approximately $20,000 a year. Allen County Commissioner Nelson Peters says, “It will be a message that will be sent to sex offenders that somebody's watching, as well as recouping a few dollars for the Sheriff's Department for the administration of running that registry program anyways.”
90% of the money will go toward the Allen County Sheriff’s Department and the rest to the state.
