FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - A new state law will ban most teens from using their cell phone while driving.
Beginning July 1st, drivers under the age of 18 will not be allowed to talk or text on their cell phone, behind the wheel.
Officials spoke with Snider High School students Friday about the dangers of using their phones while driving.
The mother of Homestead senior Rodney Thompson, who was texting when he was killed in a car accident last October, shared her message with students.
“Just be cognizant of the fact that whatever it is can wait. Patience is defiantly a virtue. And, applying that can be life saving,” Diveeta Thompson said
Officials are still ironing out what penalties teens will face, if caught breaking the law.
