FORT WAYNE, Ind (Indiana's NewsCenter)-A major drug bust in Fort Wayne puts a dent into a local drug trafficking organization.
U.S. District Attorney David Capp says 15 suspects are under arrest, charged with Federal Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine.
The 10-month investigation ended this week, when eight police agencies including the FBI, ATF, DEA, and the U.S. Marshalls office executed 15 warrants seizing more than a kilo of cocaine and a couple hundred thousand dollars in cash.
Officials say Andre Hutchins is the ring leader of this drug trafficking organization. Agents used many techniques in the investigation including federal wire taps. According to a police report, an undercover officer purchased more than 19-ounces of cocaine from many of the suspects. Officers declined to say where the cocaine involved in these arrests originated. However, in the report one suspect informed an undercover officer his supplier had two cars of cocaine headed to Fort Wayne from Texas. This bust comes as a newly formed "Safe Streets Task Force" hits the pavement of Fort Wayne.
FBI Special Agent Thomas Gancarz says "This case is just the first example of the fine work of the safe streets task force. And what I would like to do at this time is put a warning out to those criminal enterprises involved in violent criminal activity and dangerous drugs in Northeast Indiana, this behavior will not be tolerated."
One suspect is still at large, 32-year old Derrick Tennant. If you know where he is, call the Allen County Sheriff's Department, Fort Wayne Police or the FBI.
