FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – A little cheer, a little rock-n-roll, and a little spirit took over the Grand Wayne Center.

The 2014 Great Lakes Championship Cheerleading (GLCC) competition continued in downtown Fort Wayne Saturday.

“Rock Spirit” was the theme for the third year in a row, encouraging its 4,000 attendees to dress in their favorite rock style.

Organizers say they strive to build a fun family atmosphere despite the competitive nature.

In addition to the theme and competition, though, the judges are looking for sportsmanship when giving the Spirit Award.

The best sportsmanship and spirit displayed by a gym, school, or studio went home with an acrylic guitar as the Spirit Award. But, no matter how they placed, every team received a shiny platinum, gold, or silver record to show off.
