FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - After a long 9 months in Afghanistan, the 384th Military Police Battalion is finally home.
Their plane landed about 2 p.m. and the last leg of the soldiers' homecoming began. After marching down the ramp, they all boarded buses to be escorted to the Memorial Coliseum where their families await.
One of those families is the McCoy's. Jennifer says as a Military family her husband is gone a lot, but he's never been gone this long.
Jennifer McCoy, “Oddly enough, we've gotten used to it. We've learned how to adjust. We know that the first week he's gone it's not going to be good with the girls. They act out more."
But, daughters 2-year old Keira and 4-year old Ashton are done acting up for now, as they eagerly anticipate their father's arrival.
"Happy!” Ashton McCoy says, “Umm...I'm excited!"
Jennifer, "We're just ready for him to be home."
After over an hour of waiting, the garage doors rise, the buses roll in, and the heroes arrive to cheering families
Jennifer and the girls frantically race through the crowd. The McCoy's are finally united again.
SGT. Jason McCoy says, “I didn't realize there were this many people here. It was kind of a shock to see the door open and then having all these people standing here. I was looking around and I finally caught color of the red, white and blue dresses. That's the only thing that I saw."
“It's been a long nine months and sometimes it's just the little things like this that makes it all better." McCoy says about his journey
"I'm glad Daddy's home!", Ashton says.
But before heading home for good, the families are treated to a welcoming ceremony where Sgt. McCoy sang the National Anthem.
McCoy was just one of over 60 soldiers to return home today. Now that he's home, he says he plans to stay home and spend time with his family.
