30 Injured After CTA Train Derails At O'Hare Airport

March 24, 2014 Updated Mar 24, 2014 at 9:20 AM EDT

CHICAGO (WTHR) -- About 30 people were injured after a Chicago Transit Authority train derailed at the Blue Line's O'Hare station this morning.

CTA officials say the train continued through the end of the platform and struck the escalators that lead to the airport terminals just before 3:00 a.m. None of the injuries this morning are believed to be serious.

"I thought it was just a hard stop at the train didn't even slow down when it was coming in," said a TSA worker who wished to not be identified. "It was chaos," the TSA worker added. "People were freaking out. Trying to figure out what happened. Trying to make sure everyone was okay."

Blue Line rail service north to O'Hare was stopped at the Rosemont station. Shuttle buses were brought in to continue the service to the airport.
