General Electric, which has operated in Fort Wayne for more than one hundred years, has announced it may spin off it's Consumer and Industrial business group, which could place 265 local jobs in limbo.

G.E. announced in May, it was planning to sell or spin-off it's appliance business but Thursday's announcement said the company is continuing to explore it's options with regard to the Consumer and Industrial group...but believes it makes the most sense to spin off both the appliance and the Consumer and Industrial group. A spokeman said the move would keep the leadership teams an employees intact.

The local plant makes small motors for things like golf carts. A sale of the motors division, which is headquartered in Fort Wayne, would raise questions about employee's pensions and benefits.
