Fort Wayne Mom Sentenced for Cutting Baby's Throat

A Fort Wayne woman convicted of slicing
her 11-month-old daughter's throat after a bitter breakup with the
child's father has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Twenty-year-old Emily Castro was sentenced yesterday. She was
found guilty but mentally ill of attempted murder in a January
bench trial.
Prosecutors say Castro was seeking revenge on her ex-boyfriend
and the girl's father, who has custody of the child, when she
attacked her daughter in April 2007.
During yesterday's hearing, her defense attorneys said she
suffers from depression and was delusional leading up to the
incident.
A judge sentenced Castro to 30 years, but suspended five years
and gave her 318 days credit for time served in jail. Castro plans
to appeal the sentence.
