FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - A man will not be charged in the May shooting death of a family member.

The Allen County prosecutor's office ruled Monday that the unidentified man shot and killed Russell Jewel, 42, of Fort Wayne, in self defense.

On May 29, 2013, Jewel was found shot to death at a home in the 5000 block of Wisteria Lane. Jewel's death was ruled Fort Wayne's 20th homicide of the year.

Witnesses told police the two men were fighting, and it escalated to a shooting.

The family member was taken to a hospital for injuries.
