DEFIANCE, Ohio (21Alive) - A woman who persuaded her 10-year-old adopted son to shoot and kill her estranged husband was sentenced to life in prison Thursday.

Judith Hawkey, 45, of Oakwood, Ohio, was convicted of aggravated murder, insurance fraud and endangering children in the 2003 shooting death of her ex-husband, Robert Breining, inside a home on Kyle Street.

Originally, police ruled Breining's death an accident.

But evidence discovered a decade later traced the killing back to the 10-year-old boy.

The life sentence comes with no chance of parole for Hawkey.
