County Council Approves Department Budgets

September 19, 2013 Updated Sep 19, 2013 at 9:20 PM EDT

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - A majority of Allen County departments will receive more funds through the county budget.

Allen County Council voted Thursday afternoon to grant funds to all departments, except the County Extension Department.

"I think we were very fair with the department heads and trying to make sure we represent the taxpayers the best that we can, and still provide the services that we need to deliver," Allen County Council President Darren Vogt, R-District 3, says.

The largest amount of appropriated funds went to the Sheriff's Department. Police requested $469,000, mostly for new patrol cars, but were given $269,000.

The budget is now set, but won't take effect until October.
