FORT WAYNE, Ind (21Alive) - City crews were called in for a different type of rescue Tuesday morning.

Kristi Brummitt reported around 11:00 hearing a cat meow from a storm drain at Georgetown Shoppes, 2618 Maplecrest Rd. She looked into the drain, and saw the kitten looking up at her.

"We tried to lure it out ourselves, and that didn't work," Brummitt says. "I called Animal Care & Control, and they came out. It's turned into cutting the drainage pipes."

Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control, City Utilities and the Fort Wayne Fire Department came to the strip mall to help rescue the kitten.

The cat remains stuck in the drain, but traps have been set up to help rescue the kitty.
