FREMONT, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - Fremont Community Schools board approved a work force reduction the equivalent of 5¼ full time positions at Monday night's board meeting.

The layoffs were approved by a 6-1 vote, and are effective immediately. Some positions laid off were full-time positions; others were a reduction of hours for certain staff members.

The district originally proposed the equivalent of 11 full-time positions at a May 20 board meeting.

Superintendent Loraine Vaughn says resignations and retirements over the past month allowed for the amount of layoff notices to be reduced.

Layoffs were necessary to offset district budget cuts, Vaughn says, and were part of the discussions at previous board meetings.
