FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - A man convicted of abusing Sparkle the Cat last summer has received a three-year prison sentence Monday morning.

Matthew Jerome, of Fort Wayne, will serve one year behind bars. Two years were suspended.

Jerome pleaded guilty to two counts of animal torture and one count of animal cruelty in December. Those pleas were accepted Monday.

Jerome burned Sparkle's paws and singed her whiskers.

The kitten recovered, and was later adopted.
