FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - The man at the center of a murder investigation in Mercer County, Ohio has been arrested in Fort Wayne after allegedly hiding out from police for nearly two months.
Officers with the Mercer County Sheriff's Department say 40-year-old Daniel Charles Martin was arrested at a home on Bowser Avenue Wednesday, in connection with the November 8, 2012, murder of his girlfriend, 26-year-old Melinda Shinn.
On the morning of November 8, Shinn was found shot in her Rockford, Ohio home. An arrest warrant was issued for Martin that evening. Later that night, Martin's red Ford Explorer was found in Fort Wayne, where police say Martin has family.
The Rockford Police Department asked the Mercer County Sheriff's Department to aid in the investigation. The Mercer County Sheriff's Department also requested the assistance of the United States Marshal's Service.
In December, a Mercer County Grand Jury issued a murder indictment against Martin.
For several days, U.S. Marshals and Mercer County Sheriff's Deputies have been tracking Martin in Fort Wayne. Just after noon Wednesday, Deputy Marshals and Mercer County Detectives arrested Martin at a home on Bowser Avenue.
An AK 47 assault rifle was found inside the home. Police are still tracking who owns the firearm.
Another man at the residence was also taken into custody for an outstanding warrant. A source with the U.S. Marshal's Service says the warrant was for an unrelated "failure to appear" charge.
Martin has been booked into the Allen County Jail.
