FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- The 12th annual police and fire memorial was held at the Law Enforcement Fire Fighter Memorial just off Wells Street today.
Family, friends, police officers, and firefighters gathered around to remember the lives and deaths of heroes in the police and fire industry. The memorial is home to eleven members of the law enforcement and today sergeant Kenneth Hayden's name was added to the memorial.
"With the help from a lot of local people, we wrote letters, we explained, we answered numerous questions, filled out lots of paper work and we were hurt, said Joan Hayden, the widow of Kenneth Hayden. "He's always been a hero to those who know and love, now he's a hero to the community as well," she added.
The memorial is out in the public for anyone to visit and has a motto of "At peace with pride."
