It's a question many people are asking in light of the Omaha shootings, should there be more security in shopping malls? Nicole Pence reports from a popular mall in Fort Wayne.
Nicole Pence/Indiana's NewsCenter: "Jefferson Pointe is a unique mall because it is outside. But, every day, thousands put up with the weather to shop here because they like it. Indiana's NewsCenter asked some of those shoppers what they thought about mall security, and if any changes need to be made."
Robbie Sondag/Fort Wayne: "Yes, the story makes you think twice but I don't really think twice about shopping here in Fort Wayne."
Lanessa Parker/Fort Wayne: (Do you think there is much a mall can do to protect people?) Indoor malls maybe, outdoor malls like this probably not. When people are determined to do something bad and mean they are going to do it no matter what."
Chris Ford/Jefferson Pointe: "You have your challenges, I think with both lifestyle centers like ours, as well as closed facilities and defiantly a plan has to be designed for our particular property."
Ford couldn’t tell us much about Jefferson Pointe’s security plan. He says it’s confidential.
Chris Ford/Jefferson Pointe: "We definitely have security staff that patrol the parking lots and foot patrolmen that walk the interior of the property. It has definitely caused us to continue to work on enhancing our security here."
Nicole Pence/Indiana's NewsCenter: " The shooting in Omaha is the fourth mall shooting of the year in the United States. Fortunately for us here in Fort Wayne, nothing like that has ever happened.”
