BETHPAGE, N.Y. (www.incnow.tv) - Notre Dame tight end Tyler Eifert has won the 2012 John Mackey Award, recognizing him as college football's most outstanding tight end.

Nassau County (N.Y.) Sports Commission announced the award Wednesday morning. A committee selected Eifert among him and two other finalists: Stanford's Zach Ertz and Washington's Austin Seferian-Jenkins.

Eifert will be presented the award at the Home Depot College Football Awards at 6:30 p.m. Thursday on ESPNU.

Eifert, a Bishop Dwenger graduate, has 44 receptions, 624 yards and 4 touchdowns for the undefeated Fightin' Irish this season. Notre Dame will play in the BCS National Championship on Jan. 7. Eifert will be recognized prior to kickoff.

The Mackey Award considers on-field play, sportsmanship, academic achievement and community involvement.
