The bulbs have gone dark at a local tanning salon.
Malibu Tan on Stellhorn Road closed its doors last week - without any warning. Customers say they were left with only a note that had no contact information.
The note said the store "was bought out" and the store would be moving.
Indiana's NewsCenter called the manager for more details and was told "she wouldn't discuss it" before hanging up the phone. According to one customer she paid for $80 worth of tans - just one day before the store closed. The owner on record, before the sale, was Steve Jacobs. A source told us he lives in Arizona. There is a Malibu Tan in Angola, but the store does not have any affiliation or partnership with the closed Fort Wayne salon. Consumers often have little recourse in cases where a business closes its doors with little warning. If a company goes bankrupt or is liquidated, a consumer becomes an "unsecured creditor". Those creditors are often among the last to be paid - if any assets remain.
Here's a copy of the Malibu Tan note left for customers:
Malibu is now closed to business. As of 5/1/12 the salon was bought out. The new owner and plaza owner could not come to an agreement on rental price. The new owner decided to move the business to a new location, once the location is finalized you will be notified and all tans in the computer may be used. Sorry for inconvenience.
