In December we met Joelle Boykin, several months after purchasing 3 magazines from a company called Urban Nation she had yet to receive a single issue. The owner of the Texas company told us he would process the order. We contacted ESPN The Magazine on her behalf and that subscription arrived, but when we called Urban Nation to check on the other 2, we got the same recording dozens of consumers have complained about.
"Urban Nation's mailbox is full and cannot accept messages, please try your call later"
We called Garden Design and they have no order in the Boykin's name, despite the fact she paid Urban Nation 135 dollars well over 7 months ago. Another magazine she ordered stopped publishing already. While Urban Nation's goal of helping inner city kids is a a great one, they have an "F" rating with the Better Business Bureau and you have to wonder how many consumers are getting shorted when Joelle can't even get what she paid for with the media on her side. The company has 10 more complaints with the BBB since our original story aired 3 months ago.
The news is better at the Shepherd's house, who we featured during a special Christmas "In Your Corner". Since the story aired they've raised $7,500 toward their goal of $25,000 to build a new wing that would allow them to house more homeless veterans.
Finally, you might remember David Bauman, a technical glitch was causing his phone to dial 9-1-1 by itself, causing a number of police visits to his home. The phone company told us they sent a technician to his home and discovered a rare problem that was sending a series of outbound calls from his home. It appears that work fixed the glitch, David tells us everything seems fine.
