FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – The final meeting to discuss the future of McMillen Ice Arena was Thursday night.

The purpose of the meeting is to come up with ideas from residents to ensure a future for the facility and to meet current and ongoing needs of the community.

Its future is uncertain now that the city has a larger ice facility, the Lutheran Health Sports Center.

Parks and Rec officials say converting the arena into a multi-purpose center, complete with indoor soccer fields is one option and that all is not lost.

Al Moll, Director of Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation says, “I'm confident more than anything that we'll be able to do something but to the extent of it, the quote of the night "it may not be the penthouse" but it will be a nice step in the right direction.”

The parks board is expected to vote on the best ideas by August.
