FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – Indiana’s NewsCenter visited a local pizza restaurant to explore how they prepare for massive orders on Super Bowl Sunday.
Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for the another main event on Sunday, Super Bowl pizza! Many pizza places will be bombarded with orders game day, but don’t worry, they’re prepared.
Alex Noble, manager at the Pizza Hut at 10302 Coldwater Rd., has worked for Pizza Hut for 16 years. He’s endured working on many Super Bowl Sundays, and this year he expects anywhere from 450 to 500 pizza orders.
“It’s pretty much mad chaos for about three hours because Super Bowl pregame starts about 2-4pm. Our business starts about 4:00, we have all hands on deck at 4:00, and we are just crazy busy working as hard as we can until about 7-7:30. That’s usually when halftime rolls around, and by that time it dies off,” Noble said.
He says Sunday, the store will by fully staffed with 50 kitchen employees and eight delivery drivers. He says he’s even staffed a few employees called “kitchen floaters.”
“They’re kind of our ‘go-phers’ to be honest with you. We can put them where ever we want. They can make dough, they can dice vegetables, they can answer phones. We kind of use them to ‘go for’ whatever,” Noble said.
Noble says sales increase by 25 percent on Super Bowl Sunday. It's by far the busiest Sunday of the year, and one of the top five busiest all year round. Noble says New Year’s Eve is the busiest night.
The Pizza Hut on Coldwater and Dupont Rd. is one of the most prosperous in Fort Wayne. He estimates carry-out times to be around 30 minutes, and delivery times to be an hour or more. So, if you're thinking about ordering pizza for the big game, Noble suggests pre-ordering to beat the crowd.
“We have two different types of pre-order. We have online ordering at pizzahut.com, and you can pre-order up to seven days in advance…and specify a time they want it due,” he said. “The other thing they can do is call. we get calls, starting on Friday and Saturday, at the store saying ‘hey I want to order this for Super Bowl. I'd like to pick it up at 6 o'clock.’ We'll take their order for them and make sure it's ready at 6 o'clock.”
One of the managers at Pizza Hut is devoted to taking pre-orders for Super Bowl. Noble says the top selling pizzas are Supreme, pepperoni, cheese, and the Taco pizza—a Fort Wayne exclusive. He says many people enjoy their Wing Street wings for the game as well.
