CLEARWATER, Fla. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Legendary professional wrestler "Macho Man" Randy Savage died Friday in a car crash in Florida.
He was 58.
Florida Highway Patrol crash report reads that around 9:25 a.m., Savage lost control of his Jeep Wrangler, and crossed the center line. His car then drove over a concrete median, and hit a tree head-on.
An autopsy will be performed to determine if Savage suffered a “medical event” before the crash.
Savage’s wife, Barbara Poffo, was a passenger in the Jeep, and suffered minor injuries.
Savage, whose real name was Randall Poffo, was a popular wrestler in the 1980s and 1990s. He won numerous world heavyweight championships during his time in the World Wresting Federation and World Championship Wrestling.
Known for his raspy voice, sunglasses and colorful ring attire, Savage also served as a spokesman for Slim Jim brands. He also appeared in a number of films in retirement.
