ROANOKE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – The Lutheran Medical group broke ground on a new family medicine facility in Roanoke.

Members of the Lutheran Health Network, Lutheran Medical Group, Town of Roanoke and Huntington County will celebrate the early of stages of construction on a new 7,000-square-foot family medicine physician office. The groundbreaking ceremony begins at 1 p.m.

The building will be located at 280 Commercial St. in downtown Roanoke. It will replace an office currently serving the community, which was built in a single family home. The Lutheran Medical group says the new $1.2 million office will be 80 percent larger than the existing practice at 155 W. Eighth St.

The new facility will consist of six exam rooms, a procedure room, an updated area for lab work and will have expanded parking.

The added space is something Jeffrey Witt, MD says will make a world of difference for him and his staff as well as the patients who come to him for care.

"I think the biggest plus that isn’t currently being delivered for patients here will be a little more efficiency with access, and being able to get in and out a little quicker, being able to get an exam a little quicker, so efficiencies. And I think the access to specialists on an intermittent basis, saving some of them—for their routine specialist care—some trips down the road."

Construction on the new building is expected to be completed in early November.
