FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- A Fort Wayne family of 5 is being checked out at a local hospital, after their house went up in flames Thursday morning.

Around 7:30 a.m. Thursday, crews from three townships and the Fort Wayne Fire Department battled the flames at 3821 West State Boulevard, between Hillegas and Leesburg Roads.

The mother had taken her three kids under the age of 10 to be checked out for smoke inhalation.

The father was taken by ambulance.

Investigators say the fire started in a downstairs bedroom and are looking into how it began.

The home is believed to be a total loss.
