FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Does Fort Wayne have its own Loch Ness Monster?

Our crews went to Lakeside Park Wednesday evening and peered into the murky water to find out.

Nessie in Scotland needs to move over, it appears you may have company.

Last summer, Fort Wayne Resident & Professional Photographer Larry Kenner took a picture of what he calls "The Lakeside Ness Monster".

On Sunday July 11, our partner in news, The Journal Gazette printed the creature's picture and Fisherman Mike Ball said he has been fishing here ever since.

To date, ball has caught a catfish weighing about 15 pounds and a Carp weighing nearly 11 pounds.

When asked if it would be cool to have the Lakeside Ness Monster in Fort Wayne, Ball said, "I think it would and I'd like to get it too.

So that raises the question... Where did Fort Wayne's Nessie come from?

"Well my main thoughts were I believe they did see something and I feel like the only way that it is an odd creature is if somebody put it in here," said Sharon Scruggs, who was fishing with out of town relatives.

Some people think it is a big carp, others think it is something else, but everyone agrees that there is something in the water at Lakeside Park.

"Maybe it's a pet snake, maybe a pet lizard, it's possible that its adjusted to the water," said Ms. Scruggs.

"I'm sorry. I think it was just a big fish," said Erin Smith, who visited the park for the first time Wednesday evening with her daughter.

Big fish or not... our resident fisherman has a theory.

"I think it's a big carp rolling over. Yeah. I've seen something similar to that at the lake, when they do that so as soon as I saw it (the picture printed in the Journal Gazette) that's what I thought it was," said Mr. Ball.

Lakeside Park's water is stocked by local and state wildlife experts.

Meanwhile, the consensus is still out on whether the creature is "Lakeside Nessie" or just a really big carp.

Some people think it is a pet snake or lizard that was set free and adapted to the water.

Others believe it's a 20 or 30 pound carp.

Fisherman Mike Ball put it best.

Ball said he is not exactly sure what it is, but that is why he started fishing there earlier this month to find out.

Lakeside Park is located at 1401 Lake Avenue on Fort Wayne's north east side.
