Fort Wayne Man Up For Top AAU Award (NBC33 VIDEO)

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - A local taekwando artist is up for the nation's top amateur awards for all sports.

John Nagel, 19, of Fort Wayne, is 1 of 19 finalists for the AAU James E. Sullivan Award, which recognizes the most outstanding amateur athlete in the United States.

Nagel began taekwando at age 4, and has a load of trophies to show his accomplishments. Nagel has won 14 state championship medals--5 of them gold--and added two bronze medals at the AAU Junior Olympics.

You can vote for Nagel through 11:59 p.m. Sunday here.

The field of 19 finalists will be reduced to three after Sunday, and the winner will be chosen in April.
