FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.nbc33.com) – In all, we saw five shootings in Fort Wayne over the Easter holiday, two of them being deadly.

The first victim, killed in an attempted home invasion on Lafayette Center Road has been identified as 65 year-old Robert Kanyuh. He is the victim of the 13th homicide in Allen County this year.

Police say a black male entered Kanyuh’s home around 11:00am on Saturday morning and fled after shooting Kanyuh in the abdomen. He was able to call 911 and was taken to Lutheran Hospital where he later died from the gunshot wounds.

Before his death he was able to speak with detectives with the Allen County Sheriff’s office about the events leading up to the incident.

"We're not exactly sure of what the motive behind the shooting was,” explained Corporal Jeremy Tinkel. “I can't necessarily say that it's not linked to anything in the city. I mean you can't 100% say that, but it's safe to say this might be its own separate entity that what we're dealing with in the city."

Due to the location some neighbors have grown concerned are still searching for answers.

“That's one reason why I kind of moved away from the city,” says Robert Peaver, one of the victim’s neighbors, “I don't like the crowd, and you hear about all this gang-banging going on. And this is kind of far out for something like that to be happening, you know? And it happens, it makes you wonder you know, it don't matter where you live or where you go it can happen anywhere."

Kanyuh reportedly owns an auto parts show on the city’s south side and his death came as a surprise to some in the area.

One business owner nearby described him as being very nice and helpful to a number of people in the neighborhood.

The investigation continues in this shooting, as of right now police only have a description of the shooter as a “black male” who drove away in an unidentified car.
