FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.nbc33.com) – Spring may only be a few days old, but even the chilly temperatures and threats of possible snow haven't stopped some from enjoying the great outdoors. And of course, golf fanatics are no exception.
For many around Fort Wayne, it's never too early to bust out those clubs. Even though it's not nearly as warm as it was in March 2012, golf fans nonetheless are getting anxious to get on the course.
While some of the private courses haven't opened just yet, a handful of public courses are waiting.
"We've been seeing a lot of our regulars, they'll come in for a cup of coffee or buy their membership, or whatever it is just to hang around,” says Rick Hemsoth, the Manager of Golf Operations for the Fort Wayne Parks Department. “They all want to play and for a lot of them it's a little too cold. Although we have had players periodically. All the weekend we had some players, you know if it's kind of 40 degrees and not real windy, some of our die-hards will be out there playing."
While some prefer conditions closer to 85 and sunny, some of the more hard core golfers only need temperatures in the 50’s or 60’s. And when that finally happens, golf courses in the area are sure to fill up.
