BERNE, Ind. (NBC33) - A Fort Wayne-based company announced plans Tuesday to expand, adding 26 more jobs to the workforce by 2015.
Poseidon Barge has purchased a 72,000 square-foot facility along with 22 acres of property in Berne with plans to expand its temporary facility which is already based in Berne.
"It met the criteria we were looking for as far as the infrastructure and we just saw an opportunity to pull on a great community of workers," says Poseidon Barge president Mary Habegger-Fox.
With the expansion comes the need for skilled workers, but officials say the company is willing to train any interested applicants.
"One of the keys for us is going to be finding skilled tradesman, in a small community as well. So we know that is going to be a big struggle for us, that's going to be a big hurdle to get over so we just want to get the word out that we are looking for people that are interested in learning this trade. And we'll help you in the training process."
Construction will soon begin to renovate the existing building. The plant is expected to be operational by May 2014.
