FORT WAYNE, Ind. (NBC33) – Three years ago, it was simply a dream amongst friends around a bonfire. Today it has grown to become one of northeast Indiana’s biggest music festivals.
Pinestock 2013 has grown up from its early days when a group of friends enjoyed a bonfire listening to a local band to what it is today. A 10 band, 2 DJ festival all-day festival scheduled for Saturday September 7th in Churubusco.
Performers in this year’s show span all genres of music, and the event will also feature a beer garden, plenty of space for camping, as well as food provided by Bravas food truck.
Co-founders Nate Norris and Nicholas Weaver wanted the festival to become a unique experience, one that anybody would have a hard time finding anywhere else.
"You can drive and go to Bonnaroo, or you can fly and go to Coachella, or you can drive to Chicago and go to Lollapalooza, but you're going to spend a few hundred dollars. And you're going to travel out there and you're going to be exhausted. So for people in the northeast Indiana region, there's really nothing like this. So our goal is to provide this side of the country a music festival that is really just about music."
Norris also discussed where the motivation came to start Pinestock back in 2011
"We just got really mad at festivals and concerts in general because you show up, you pay your $50 entrance fee, you show up and then you have to pay another $5 - $10 for parking, and then you're paying for your beer, and then you're paying for this. The next thing you know you've spent $150 at the event not thinking you were going to spend that much money. So we tried to make it all inclusive to include everything."
Gates open at noon on Saturday with shows slated to begin shortly thereafter. Tickets can be purchased at the Pinestock website or at the door the day of the show. The $30 pass includes parking, your pass to the shows, bottomless drinks, and a space for camping.
