New Species Of Mammal Discovered (NBC33 VIDEO)

UNITED STATES (NBC33) -- The Smithsonian Institute announced a major discovery of a new species of mammal Thursday.

It's called the Olinguito and people best-describe it as a cross between a house cat and a teddy bear. It is the smallest of the raccoon family.

While it is relatively common to discover new species of insects or marine organisms, the discovery of a new mammal in the 21st century is incredible rare. Especially, as in this case, when it is the discovery of a carnivore.
