Fort Wayne, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - A man was arrested Friday after witnesses told police he flashed a handgun at the funeral of 19-year-old Montez Brooks.

Brooks was shot over the weekend. His funeral service was held Friday at the Union Baptist Church on Smith Street on Fort Wayne’s south side.

After police were called to the church late Friday morning Demondre Reeves was arrested for possession of a handgun without a license.

Montez was a former standout football player at Bishop Luers High School. He was dropped off at a local hospital Sunday night after being shot. He died shortly after.

Jonathan Ray with the Fort Wayne Urban League says Reeves arrest is a reminder that it's the culture that needs to change in the city before the violence can end.

“It's just a culture of violence and unless we deal with that at it's root then we're going to continue to have more and more violent acts occur in our community and I don't think anyone wants that to happen,” said Ray. "Hopefully the community will rally and come together and really push to change culture, culture doesn’t change quickly so it's going to be something that we all work to get through and establish hope and change and, no tolerance for that type of thing.”

Police say no shots were fired Friday at the church and nobody was hurt.
